ABOUT GET FIT SATX
Get Fit SATX is a group training facility focused on providing personalized strength, conditioning and endurance training in a group setting. Our mission is to inspire movement in our community and motivate athletes of every level, from just-off-the-couch beginner to Ultramarathoner.
Founders Joey and Athena first began training runners for marathons in 2010. By the next summer, they had built out a fitness program that incorporated strength and conditioning as well as endurance training. The program gained momentum and in the summer of 2015, we opened the doors to our very own training facility.
Our training is geared toward making you a well-rounded athlete. Our programs incorporate cardio, strength training and endurance. We offer high intensity “Endura-Fit” classes, individualized running programs, and half or full marathon training. Because we believe a well-rounded lifestyle also involves good nutrition, we offer nutritional education, guidelines, and individualized meal plans as well.
We at Get Fit SATX are dedicated to community and like to think of ourselves as a family. We truly care about the success of our athletes. In fact, we love supporting our family so much that you will often find us cheering on our athletes at their races. Athena Farias, MS
NASM CPT / CES / NASE / RRCA
I have been coaching in the health and fitness industry for 17 years. I have a Bachelor's in Exercise and Sports Science and a Master's in Exercise Science and Health Promotion. I have held certifications from ACSM HFI & CPT, AFAA, Schwinn Cycling instructor, Yoga Fit level 1, and Mat Pilates. I hold advanced certifications as a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) and Performance Enhancement Specialist. Previously I worked as an Instructor I lecturer at UTSA, in the Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition Department. I am currently a Research Physical Therapist for the Geneva Foundation and work at the Center for the Intrepid. Most recently, I became a running coach for MilestonePod in order to track my athletes' progress and further personalize workout plans.
My career as an Exercise Physiologist & Diabetes Prevention Education Specialist has allowed me to combine my passion of healthy living through being physically active and healthy eating. In my 29 years of running, I have completed one 50 mile Ultra marathon, 14 full marathons, 27 half-marathons, and countless 10K, and 5K's. I am an "adrenaline junkie," I also do adventure races, mountain biking, road cycling, duathlons (on & off road), kayaking, rock climbing, anything that gets my heart rate up and moving. I lead by example by practicing what I preach. I work with a diverse clientele from beginners, special populations, and athletes. Each one of us can achieve our goals as long as you have the right guidance. It takes setting realistic, achievable goals, and encouraging clients to find their motivation within themselves.
Joey Farias is a co-founder of Get Fit SATX, a website and fitness group aimed at decreasing the chance of individuals developing Type II diabetes and heart disease. He has studied Health and Fitness at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Texas, and at National Christian University where he played college baseball. He feels the importance of exercise and healthy eating habits from adults that would lead to a healthy lifestyle for children in today’s world. “1 in 3 children born after the year 2000 have a chance to develop Type II Diabetes”, is a statistic that was branded into his mind. With 5 nephews, 1 niece and a son all born after the year 2000, he is really trying to make a change for the better in today’s world of fast food and technology.
