I remember when I was a kid, heading out the door when the sun came up, running inside for lunch, dinner, getting ready for baseball, basketball, or football practice, and finally winding down when the sun went down. Hardily ever being inside. In today’s time, the kids are as pale as vampires, know every show that  is on cable from” 16 and Pregnant” to “Hanna Montana”. Eating everything in sight, and little to no exercise. NO KIDS, walking upstairs to play the Xbox is not exercise. With childhood obesity hitting an all time high, now is when we as adults need to do something and lead by example. Kids born after the year 2000 have a 1 in 3 chance in developing Type II Diabetes. It doesn’t take much to get children outside in the afternoon and go for a walk, or ride a bike, or even kick the soccer ball around. Not only is this great exercise for our children, it  is also a great way to appreciate family time. Let us unite and get kids active once again.

Instead of watching TV, get the family up and moving. Reducing screen time helps you maintain a healthy weight.

Encourage every member of your family to increase daily physical activity and have fun at the same time. Be sure to think about what your family can be doing to build in more active time during your busy week. Here are some suggestions to consider.

My teen only wants to eat.....

    Being a teen in today’s world must be tough. Always on the go, being told by your parents what to do. Oh and don’t forget your cell phones, Xbox, iPod’s, laptops, and every other electronic device you can think of. Yes, if you have not noticed, I am being sarcastic.

     As parents, we must lead you in the right direction when it comes to morals, education, and food choices. I admit, I am guilty of stopping by the local burger joint and picking up a quick UNHEALTHY burger for convenience. It is so easy to pick that double cheeseburger instead of a grilled chicken sandwich. I have a 7 year old son in which I MUST head in the right direction when it comes to healthy choices.
